Featured case study

Modernising a 30-year-old lending platform

A staged modernisation of a business-critical VB6 and .NET Framework platform, led across an engineering and QA group of approximately 15 to 20 people.

The work uses the strangler fig pattern, modern .NET, React, REST APIs, Azure Functions and Azure Service Bus to decouple critical capabilities and move payment processing towards webhook and event-driven workflows.

The shape of my experience

My experience sits at the intersection of long-lived enterprise software, modern SaaS delivery and engineering leadership. Much of the work involves evolving systems that cannot simply stop while they are redesigned.

Business-critical lending platforms

For more than a decade I have worked within lending and credit technology spanning origination, account servicing, payments, collections and operational workflows. The engineering challenge is not only functional correctness: changes must account for customer configuration, data integrity, integrations, auditability and continuous service.

Legacy and modern technology together

The estate includes large .NET Framework and Windows applications alongside modern .NET services, React front ends and Azure components. I have worked on approaches that allow these technologies to coexist while capabilities move gradually towards clearer boundaries and more maintainable delivery.

My approach includes clear workflow, pragmatic estimation, visible risks, coaching and helping product and engineering stakeholders understand the consequences of technical choices.

AI in engineering practice

I actively explore agentic AI, coding assistants and AI-supported analysis. The emphasis is on using these tools to accelerate understanding, repetitive implementation and documentation while maintaining review, testing, security and engineering accountability.
